The Adobe Creative Jam

By Client Leadership Team

The competition was fierce, the beer was free and the barbecue was on point. Cincinnati’s first Adobe Creative Jam went down on Monday night at Rhinegeist. I was honored to be a part of it, along with my esteemed co-worker Emily Zalla and a whole bunch of other local talent. Emily served on the judges’ panel, while I teamed up with former Hyperquaker and über-talented designer Nick Moegly.

Most of the event took place in Rhinegeist’s private event area, but we also got to sneak up to their incredible public rooftop bar.

Nick and I cranking through our design (and probably questioning every choice we made).

The premise of the competition is pretty simple: design teams of two get together, the night’s theme is revealed, and have to create something—anything—in three hours to present to the judges and audience. The designs are pitched, judged, and voted on; and finally, the Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice awards are handed out to the top teams in both Motion Design and Visual Design categories.

The event’s design prompt was “Throwback to the Future,” and our resulting design was heavily influenced by old advertisements and imagery from midcentury World’s Fairs. You can check out our final piece below. We were happy with it, although it would have been nice to tighten things up with another hour or two!

Our design came in second for the “People’s Choice” award.

We were so impressed at what the other design teams were able to produce in such a short amount of time—there was some really great work all around. You can check out the winners and each team’s designs on the Adobe Creative Jam Behance page.

KICKING OFF DESIGN WEEK

The jam served as a great way to help kick off Cincinnati Design Week, happening now through next Friday, September 30. Hyperquake was honored to have the opportunity to build the identity for this year’s Design Week festivities. We’ll have a case study detailing our process creating that shortly, but in the meantime check out the event we’re hosting at the Contemporary Arts Center next Tuesday and reserve your spot here!
