Join Us At the Flea!

By Emily Zalla

As the temperature climbs up toward 70 degrees (thank you, Cincinnati!), we’re beginning to look forward once again to the breezy, cheerful afternoons of City Flea. It’s one of the Hyperquake team’s favorite warm-weather events, whether as a participating vendor or as booth-hopping shoppers. Since 2011, the City Flea has been bringing together Cincinnatians of all stripes to set up shop for one day each month, discover the wealth of creativity and artisanship in our community, and keep our dollars local. From vintage toy collectors to screenprinted designs, handmade furniture and food trucks galore, each City Flea is different—and it’s helped our team make good memories several times over.

GETTING OUT & GETTING INSPIRED

For the first time, Hyperquake participated in the City Flea (twice!) in 2015. Each member of our design team offered up his or her own products for sale, ranging from screenprints and letterpress prints to T-shirts and handbound journals. We flexed design, illustration and production muscles we don’t always utilize at work; we discovered new interests and strengths in each other; and ultimately we spent a couple of relaxing days in OTR with other designers, makers and browsers who love our city. We drew inspiration from work at all kinds of booths (check out a few of our favorites: LFleaKBrown Bear Bakery, James Billiter StudioTeufelmacht,Cincinnati Royals, and Fern). We look forward to more inspiration this year—and we’re even hoping to donate the proceeds from our Hyperquake-branded swag to a local charity. After all, we’re just over here trying to Simplify, Inspire, & Do Good.

CARE TO JOIN US?

We’re submitting our application again this year in the hopes that we can participate in a Flea or two and enjoy that fresh Washington Park air. If you’re a designer or a collector and you’d like to throw your hat in the ring, the application is available here. But even if you’re not—if you’re anybody who likes fresh breezes, smiling faces, comfortable strolls, or creative finds, there is something for you at the City Flea. The first market will be Saturday, May 21 from 10-4. Whether as sellers or shoppers, we’ll be there, and we hope to see you, too. You never know what you’ll find.

Check out the whole schedule here.
